Experimental Mechanical Engineer, Joining and Additive Manufacturing Team, Materials Division
Martin McDonnell is currently a member of the Materials Division-Joining and Additive Manufacturing Team at the U.S. Army Tank, Automotive, Research, Development and Engineering Center (TARDEC) in Warren, MI. TARDEC is the leading laboratory for development, integration and sustainment for all manned and unmanned Army ground, combat and watercraft systems for the current and future fighting force.
Mr. McDonnell has been named an experimenter mechanical engineer for the Army and has been applying his expertise for evolving new and improved processes and techniques for joining of metallic and non-metallic materials. His primary research interests are in friction stir welding with a focus on dissimilar material joining as a key technology to enable weight reduction through material substitutions and manufacturing processes.
Mr. McDonnell received his Bachler of Science (BS) in mechanical engineering from Penn State Behrend in Erie, PA through the Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship. He is currently working towards his MS in weld engineering at The Ohio State University.
